6 Things to Know Before You Get a Clarisonic

Some may call Clarisonic users a cult because once you own one, you never go back. You also think everyone should use one. I’d have to agree.

I was skeptical about buying a Clarisonic due to the price, but I got a great deal on the device and some accessories at a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a few years ago and I’ve never regretted it.

I have pretty well-behaved skin already: no acne, no redness and only a few blackheads. My biggest problems are dry, dead skin and oiliness. Luckily, the spinning brush head on Clarisonic takes care of those issues. My two year ownership has taught me some things about this coveted device.

3 Steps To Having The Most Productive Summer Ever

IMG_5905

No matter how old we get, what career paths we take and no matter how far we go, summer is the time for reinvention.

Every summer, I set goals for myself. Whether that be revamping my wardrobe, getting in better shape or trying new things, I’ve never regretted challenging myself during the warmer months. After a stressful year of college that came with many changes in itself, I’ve been adamant on making this my most productive summer yet. Here are three easy steps I’m taking to make sure I get everything I want to do done.

1. Keep a list of your goals and look at it every day.

Writing down your goals and why they’re your goals will help you visualize everything. Re-reading them every day will remind you why you’re budgeting your money so tightly or why you’re going to the gym five times a week. Most of all, picking up a cute notebook or notepad to write your goals in will make it a better experience all around. I like these notepads from Kate Spade.

2. Set goals within your goals.

Screen Shot 2015-05-10 at 2.56.35 PM

Maybe one of your goals for the summer is to organize your entire apartment or house. However, Rome wasn’t built in a day and you know your house isn’t going to go from Hoarders to Martha Stewart’s beach house in a week. Setting goals within your goals will help you stay motivated and show you just what progress is. Set aside a week to organize your living room, one week for your bathrooms, one week for your master bedroom, etc., etc. Each goal you accomplish will lead to your overall goal and checking off your feats will be so much more satisfying than only marking off one big goal without seeing how far you have come!

3. Reward yourself when it’s over.

Screen Shot 2015-05-10 at 3.07.23 PM

Once you’ve marked everything off of your goal list, treat yo’ self! You worked hard and you deserve a little fun. Whether it be a new pair of sunglasses or just a nice meal, make sure you reward yourself for all of your hard work.

Make three months of warm weather the perfect opportunity for you to achieve your goals. Big or small–make sure they’re ones you conquer–let summer be the time you get things done!

Chic and Kohl: LC Lauren Conrad Fall Collection Picks

Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad is pretty much the queen of everything. Her style, grace and classic lifestyle since her Laguna Beach days has been an inspiration for all of her fans both from the LB days and the newbies. Being the queen of everything, LC has gifted her fan base with her collection for Kohl’s Department Store: LC Lauren Conrad. Paired with Kohl’s awesome prices, the LC Lauren Conrad line has not disappointed one bit. LC has nailed it this season with her fall collection. A trendy color palette and essential pieces make this collection an absolute closet must-have for every girl.

The (Faux) Leather Circle Skirt

LC Lauren Conrad Faux-Leather Circle Skirt $29.99

It was love at first sight with this skirt, but then it was complete obsession when I saw that this color was called “Winetasting”. Um…only Lauren Conrad would be that clever. Unlike many other faux-leather circle skirts circulating the fashion scene, the hem on this one is finished so it definitely won’t fray or look ratty after a few wears. Being a product designed (and modeled) by Lauren herself, this skirt is not uncomfortably short or grandma-length…it hits at the perfect spot.

Your Skinny Jeans’ New BFF

LC Lauren Conrad Lace Bow Sweater $36.99

Ditch your plain old sweaters and go with this dainty one! The lace and bows are on trend and the crisp white color–awesomely known as “Marshmallow”–is perfect for both fall and winter. LC definitely had our backs with this lady-like piece. The lace inserts show some skin (but not too much) and had a little bit of sexiness to a classic piece.

Your Fuzzy Weapon Against the Cold

LC Lauren Conrad Eyelash Boyfriend Cardigan $44.99

This cardigan is perfect for adding a bit of texture to any plain black outfit. Don’t let the furry appearance fool you, it definitely won’t make you look like a monster. It’s slim and trim, but will definitely keep you warm.

Not-So-Neutral Flats

LC Lauren Conrad Flats $24.99

Jenna Lyons said that leopard print was a neutral. She was totally right. Checking out these flats at this price, I’m just wondering if you already grabbed your keys and wallet and left for your nearest Kohl’s or if you have a tab open scanning the website for them? Let me know when you get them because that bow is to die for!

(Not So) Humble Abode: Hollywood Regency

Procrastination is my inspiration. Whenever I am scouring the Internet to educate myself on topics like how to fold fitted sheets, how to dye my hair blue like Kylie Jenner or what the difference between blue and royal blue is, I am usually sitting next to a pile of work taller than myself. These Internet adventures may keep me from checking off my to-do list, but they do not leave me without ideas on how to spruce up my closet or my home. My most recently pinned has been hollywood regency styled decor. It’s hard to describe, but if when I really put my mind to it, I would say it’s like Elizabeth Taylor meets Kate Spade. Pops of color, lots of glamour, chic glass furniture, gold, silver….think ritzy and rainbow.

The Pieces:

Glass coffee table

Wildon Home Winston Coffee Table $206.99

blue velvet pillow

Haye Plain Velvet Pillow $63.50

faux fur throw

H&M Faux Fur Throw $79.95

It’s hard to commit to a whole look when you’re talking about your home. These three pieces embrace the hollywood regency decor, but they aren’t overwhelming and can easily blend in with your current decor. Don’t have the cash for a velvet couch? Start with the sleek blue velvet pillows. Think a full-sized faux fur comforter won’t work with your air conditioner-less L.A. apartment? Try a faux fur throw for those chilly nights. The gold and glass coffee table? Decorate it with pretty vintage books and fake peonies (because real flowers take time…) and you won’t have to worry about smudges and fingerprints.

Floral Blazers: Spring Into Fall

Despite the humidity circulating the East Coast, I have been thinking of [cheap] ways to spice up my fall wardrobe. Fall usually means dark colors, dark prints and heavy fabric. Can you say sadness? To beat the harshness during the season of change, I always aim to incorporate a little spring or summer piece into my sweater, coat, jeans and boots combo.

Floral Blazer

Charlotte Russe Floral Print Cropped Blazer $36.99

This year? I’m all about floral blazers. Some may say this is a huge fashion no, but floral prints are coming in strong for the fall. My favorite is this blazer (above) from Charlotte Russe. Trends come and go, so don’t ever blow your cash on something that you’ll only wear for one season. One thing better than the price tag on this baby is its cropped fit. While the vibrant print can’t necessarily carry its own in the office, it spices up your LBD in no time.

So do you need a floral blazer? Or, do you really need a floral blazer?

Fashion Bash: My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Haul

photo 1 copy

Every year, Nordstrom holds their own Christmas in July event called the Anniversary Sale. There, they round up a bunch of fall clothing, handbags, accessories, shoes, beauty products and much more, and sell it all for a great price.

These sales mean two things:

1) Great prices

and….

2) buying things you don’t really need.

With that being said, I really focused on what I was buying. Leather leggings for about $60? YES! But, no. I’ll wear them twice and then they’ll sit in my closet forever. Frye boots for $259.90? ALL IN. Why? Because the price is great, I threw my other riding boots out after the bottom cracked. What I’m trying to say is that the Anniversary Sale is a great time to buy investment pieces for a low price, wear them for years and never feel the ‘designer guilt’ that is often associated with high-end purchases. Here’s what I got:

Nike ‘Free TR Connect 2’ Training Shoe $72.90

I haven’t bought tennis shoes in 2 years. My first pair of Nike Frees were starting to wear on the bottom and I was definitely feeling it while working out. To take my neon beauties’ place, I got these. Originally priced $110, I feel secure saying that I got a deal.

Frye ‘Phillip’ Riding Boot $259.90

I had no intentions of buying boots any time soon when I heard about the anniversary sale. However, when I finally got the catalog and saw boots everywhere, I thought that it was better now than never to replace my brown riding boots. While Tory Burch had some contenders in my search for new boots during the sale, the authentic, less structured and cooler Frye boots won my heart. I’ve loved Frye since one of my favorite (and now retired) bloggers, Casey, was constantly writing about hers. These have an original price tag of $387.95, I saved on these.

CLARISONIC ‘Mia 2’ Sonic Skin Cleansing System $149

This wasn’t my safest purchase. I heard so many mixed reviews about it and was always afraid of the price. However, my skin was seriously bugging me, I had it with break outs and blackheads. With a carry case, travel bag, cleanser and extra brush head included along with the Mia 2, this purchase was a great deal. My personal shopper assured me that if I totally hated it, I can return it. I’ve been using it for 2 weeks and am so happy with it. It gets my makeup ALL the way off and eliminated dead skin, practically all of my blackheads and has made my skin so much less oily. I’m impressed, to say the least.

While I limited myself during the sale, I picked out a few more things that I thought were great deals for you to scoop up before the sale ends in a few days. Head over to Nordstrom to see what’s left and remember to #nsale on social media to share your posts with fellows Nordy Girls and Guys.
